Intensive programs are designed for people who want a more frequent treatment than standard weekly sessions. They are also good programs for individuals and families from outside of the Portland Metro area, who cannot find a qualified provider in their local area.
Intensive Outpatient Program for Children and Adolescents with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
This program was created for children and adolescents with OCD. It is based on the program developed by Dr. Stephen Whiteside, PhD at the Mayo Clinic. The treatment is most effective for children and adolescents with mild to moderate OCD. An initial assessment is required to determine the severity of the OCD and if the program will fit the needs of the child or adolescent. The traditional program consists of ten individual or family sessions, scheduled twice a day over five days. The program includes a careful follow-up plan. The follow-up plan is an essential part of the program to help create consistent progress. My experience has shown that five days allows the child or adolescent to gain a better understanding of OCD and achieve some successes. This helps them want to continue with follow up sessions.
This program requires pre-authorization for most insurance companies. If the program is not a good fit then other possible treatment programs will be discussed for the child or adolescent.
